King Felix deserves the Cy Young

After tonight's game against Texas Rangers Felix Hernandez is clearly the prime favorite to win the Cy Young. He has dominated all the pitching categories except for wins and complete games. His 13-12 record is grossly disputed up against CC Sabbathia of the New York Yankees with 21-7. King Felix is taking his throne on the Cy Young award on a losing team that is not going to the playoffs, just like last year's winner Zack Grienke, Felix finished second with 19 wins to Grienke 15 wins. Even though the Mariners had 80+ wins last year he still dominated the pitching stats. Felix is almost a full point above CC in era with a 2.28 to CC 3.18. Felix has 227 strikeouts and is a inning behind Roy Halladay for the major league innings pitch. This award is not a team award this is a individual accomplishment given to the best pitch from each league. How and why does the team make it a factor for a individual to win a pitching award that is base solely on the pitching stats. This is award is not for the MVP of each league which usually go to the best hitter or a player that is in the triple crown race. Felix is hands down by far the most dominate pitcher in the American League. If he doesn't win this award it will be a tragedy and will absolutely say to every pitcher that has a dream to win the Cy Young to play for a winning team. What should matter in picking the award winner should be performance on the mound not how many wins the pitcher has.

College Football Prediction Week 5 Top 10 Teams

#1 Alabama vs #7 Florida
This game will tell the nation how good the Tide offense and defense really are. Florida is still trying to find their identity on offense with Jonathan Brantley under center. The Gators will be the underdogs going into this battle in Alabama. Crimson Tide should have no problems taking care of these young Gators at home and maintain their number one ranking. Both Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson will have a good game on the ground which will set up the passing game.
#Ohio State vs Illinois
Terrelle Pryor will again show case his arm and legs in this game. Buckeyes open their conference games with a victory in Illinois with a semi blow out. This game will be tight in the first half but the Buckeyes will come alive in the second half with Pryor and offense burning the Illini up and down the field. Pryor will get a invite to New York for the Heisman Trophy Award.
#3 Boise State vs New Mexico State
Cake walk game for the Broncos. Will not be a contest. Kellen Moore will have a nice game passing wise.
#4 Oregon vs #9 Stanford
PAC 10 game of the week. Game is played in Oregon so this will be a tough match up for the Cardinals and Andrew Luck. Oregon offense is blaze like fire with LaMichael James and Darron Thomas leading the way. This game might serve as who will represent the PAC 10 in the BCS. The Cardinals come in riding a great victory over Notre Dame and will look to stop this spread attack offense from the Quacks. This will be a close game to the end and the Cardinals will prevail with a seven point win. This game will highlight two teams that has Heisman contenders in LaMichael James of Oregon and Andrew Luck of Stanford.
#5 TCU vs Colorado State
TCU will look to roll throw their conference schedule starting with the Rams. Andy Dalton is the real deal under center for the Horned Frogs. TCU passing attack will give Colorado St. trouble and the Frogs will roll to their first conference victory. TCU will be tested by Utah when they meet Nov. 6 in Utah. Until then they will be on a roll and looking to move up in the polls.
#6 Nebraska bye
Will play Kansas St on Thursday Oct 7 in Manhattan, KS
#7 Florida vs #1 Alabama
Top two teams in the SEC will have a night game in Alabama. Gators better show up and play. They will need every ounce of Gatorade to keep up with the Tide. In the end the Gators will fall to the Mighty Crimson Tide who are looking to repeat and defend their national title. Speed will be a factor on both side of the ball and team.
#8 Oklahoma vs #21 Texas
The Red River Shootout. This game will feature one new quarterback in Garrett Gilbert of Texas and a second year starter in Landry Jones. The Sooners feature DeMarco Murray at running back and Ryan Broyles at wide out. The three headed monster of Jones, Murray and Broyles on offense will be to much for this young Longhorns team that just lost to UCLA in a bad way. The UCLA lost was one of the worst lost in coach Mack Brown coaching career. The Longhorns will fight to the end but will not have enough to beat a will prepared Mark Stoops team that is looking to roll throw the Big 12 South and meet Nebraska in the Big 12 title game. Gilbert will have to grow up and lead this offense that stalled against a UCLA team that handled them 34-12.
#9 Stanford vs #4 Oregon
Andrew Luck will need all the luck to beat this Oregon team that is out to prove to the nation they deserve national attention for the BCS Championship. Cardinals will have to play a near perfect game to beat the Ducks on their home pond. This will be a prime time game on ABC at 5 pacific time. The Cardinals will have to defend the spread attack and make Darron Thomas uncomfortable in the pocket and force him to throw the ball. LaMichael James will spearhead the rushing attack and will need to be contain in the box. Cardinals take the game and move up in the rankings. Very important game for both teams with BCS implications.
#10 Auburn vs Louisiana-Monroe
Quick possible a game that will be a cup cake for the Tigers of Auburn. This offense is lead by Cam Newton a former Florida Gator and JUCO transfer and freshman Michael Dyer. This game will serve as a tune up game for the Tigers as they are coming off a victory against South Carolina Gamecocks 35-27. Auburn is coming into the meat of the conference games so this will be one of their few lets roll up the score board and get the back up some reps game.

Chargers vs Hawks

This was a hard game to sit through with all the offensive deficiencies and all the soft cover zone the defense was playing. The Seahawks got real lucky with this win. They looked really good in the first half moving the ball down field and flying around on defense. Leon Washington is dynamite in a bottle, if it wasn't for his two kick returns for touchdown the Hawks would be 1-2 instead of 2-1. The second half was atrocious and disappointing. It was a tale of two stories just like any other sports team in Seattle. The hawks had a 17-0 lead and let it evaporate in a few plays. The offense sputtered in the second half and the defense was leaving receivers wide open. The Chargers had no running game and they still manged to keep the game close with Phillp Rivers going to the air. Just watching Rivers disect the Hawks defense made me realize how bad our secondary is. Antonio Gates was Rivers go to man on third down and the Hawks would some how lose track of him and give up a first down. Once again Matt Hasslebeck continues to make mistakes and throw the ball to the wrong team. Even though he had a decent game numbers wise he still needs to be more effective in the passing game. My other question is with the Chargers missing their top players like Shawn Merrimen, Vincent Jackson, Marcus McNeil and two other linebackers why couldn't Seattle take advantage of running the ball on the outside of the defense. The whole game Rivers was going down field and getting the ball to tall receivers like Malcom Floyd, Patrick Crayton, Ligdeu Nanne and Gates. The Hawks did do a good job of getting to Rivers and sacking him more than once and stuffing the running game. The defensive player of the game might have to go to Chris Clemens for putting constant pressure on Rivers. The offensive player of the game will have to be Leon Washington for his two kick returns for touch down. Lucky charms was in Seattle today looking after the Seahawks. Play another game like this and they are asking to lose big to a good team that will take advantage of how the Hawks play. It was incredle that Rivers throws for 450 plus yards and still lose. The Hawks would have major problems if the Chargers were at full health. But the game is over and the Hawks managed to hold on for a win and now it's on to next week against the Rams in St.Louis. The Hawks better prepare for this Rams team that is riding a high by beating the Washington Redskins. My message to Pete Carroll and the Hawks play for a full 60 minutes and play tough.

KC Chiefs go 3-0

Impressive is the one word that comes to my mind when I saw the Chiefs beat the SF 49ers. Both Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles are hard nose runner and Matt Cassel is directing this offense with the same confidence that bought him to Kansas City from New England. They beat the Chargers the first week, Cleveland the second week and San Francisco this week. For a team that had only 4 wins last season they are on their way to be a challenger in the AFC West.

Felix and the CY Young

The Seattle Mariners has to be the most disappointing team of the year in Major League Baseball. How does a team that has a flame thrower like Felix Hernandez and one point had Cliff Lee in their rotation go down hill so quick? This team had high expectations this season and they failed in all categories. Felix is leading the league in most of the pitching stats except the win column where he is 12-12. Last year the Cy Young winner was Zack Grienke of the Kansas City Royals with 15 wins and Felix was second. If you put Felix on a winning team i.e. Tampa, Yankees, Boston he would be blowing the talk with him and C.C. Sabathia and David Price. When a team that has a talent like Felix wouldn't you want to find batters that will give him run support to make him feel like he is doing his job. This is absolutely a embarrassment that the M's can't give this young man more than two runs per game and expect him to pitch a dominate game every time he takes the mound. This whole teams needs to be blown up and start over with the front office cleaning house. I knew this season was going to be a rough one once they traded for Milton Bradley and Ken Griffey Jr coming back. The problems kept coming and looked what happen, Don Wakamatsu gets fired not even three years on the job, Junior retires in the middle of the season, Bradley has a mental meltdown, then they trade away Lee to the Texas Rangers for prospects that are not ready to help this team out. One of their prospect has a sexual assault charge on him that stems from his minor league team in Sacramento. The Mariners are quickly losing its identity with all these problems they are having and the fans still go out and support this team. The lone bright spot on this team is Felix and his phenomenal pitching. Felix is simply keeping this team on the radar of the baseball world. He deserves this year Cy Young for the fact that he leads the league in innings pitch, strikeouts, earned run average and quality starts. Wins are a rarity for this gas thrower. Felix you are a pleasure to watch and you are the only reason right now that people go to Mariners game. It would be a shame if Felix gets snub two years in a row to win this prestige's award.

Michael Vick starting on Sunday vs Jaguars

Andy Reid might have put more fuel to the fire this week by saying Kevin Kolb will start on Sunday against Jacksonville then a day later take back those words and say Vick will play because he is more mobile than Kolb. This case was handled very poorly by the head coach. Vick should have been their starter since the announcement of the Eagles trading away Donovon Mcnabb to their rivals the Redskins. Kolb will be a good quarterback for a team but not in Philly. Reid's offense calls for a skilled quarterback like Vick. This move allows Vick to show the world that he is back on top of his game. Given the nature of what Vick has done in the past off the field it is now time to let the man play and get his due credit on the field. Vick is a amazing athlete that has lots of speed to get past defenders in open field. If this plays out right he will remind people of how Randall Cunningham and Donovon Mcnabb played during their time in Philly. Vick deserves a shot at directing this offense because of what he brings to the Eagles play book. This Eagles team is better off with Vick under center than Kolb because of Vick's ability to gain yards with his legs. Even though Vick has said he is fine being Kolb's back up it still sucks seeing a player like Vick being regulated to holding a clip board and playing a few snaps in the so called wild cat formation. I really hope that the Eagles blow out the Jaguars and Vick proves to the Eagles front office and Andy Reid that he is the right quarterback for this team and city, if not this team will lose Vick to some other team that will make him their starting quarterback next season.

Minnesota and Brett Favre

Alright losing to the Saints whens a good loss but losing to the Dolphins was just plain horrible. Why weren't the Vikings running the ball more often with one of the best running backs in Adrian Peterson? Minnesota passing game is free falling and fast, no Sidney Rice as a deep threat and teams are loading the box up to stop the run. The real question is why does Brett not trust the other receivers like Percy Harvin and Bernard Berrian. It looks like the only receiver he does trust is his tight end Visanthe Shaincoe. This team could go far as long as Brett will trust the other players not to drop the ball. The Vikings offense line is a load with all of them average 300 pounds in weight. Their defense will once again be in the top half of the league lead by Jarad Allen. The lose to Miami and them going 0-2 can have a lingering effect if they continue to play like this on offense. Their best bet is to put the ball in Adrian Peterson hand and let him run loose. Ownership lucked out on getting Vincent Jackson from the Chargers but the season can still be saved if Brett just put a little more trust into the other receivers. The Vikings defense is scary to any quarterback that likes to stand in the pocket. This team has all the tools it needs to get to the playoffs as either a division title holder or wild card team. The NFC North will be a tough division to win with Green Bay and Chicago waiting for their chances to dethrone the great one in Brett Favre.

San Diego Chargers G.M. A.J. Smith is dumb

The Chargers front office is dealing with a mess right now with two of their most important players sitting out. Vincent Jackson and Marcus McNeil who have out played their previous contract. I understand a contract is a contract and the player should play through it put but both of these position are at a premium price tag. In the case of Vincent Jackson the Chargers have turned down numerous offer at a reasonable deal. Why keep players who clearly don't want to be on their current team? The NFL has a short time for players who peak at the right time. Jackson is a threat every time he touches the ball. He commands teams to game plan around his skill set. In the case of Marcus McNeil he plays a position that commands he to protect the blindside of his quarterback. Left tackle is a position that demands him to be on top if his game. Yes left tackles in the NFL demands a lot of money these days but when a player goes to the pro bowl year after year that must say something about their ability to protect their QB.

Athletes and DUI

What is wrong with athletes and drinking and driving? You don't get away with it just because you play a professional sport. It is disgusting that they get caught and it is no big deal to them. All these so called sport stars are making a ton of money and they feel the need to get behind the wheel with three other people in the car. There is a service and it is called a taxi or hire someone to drive you around so you can get messed up. Braylon Edwards you are one dumb rock to have illegal tinted windows and then get pulled over for a dwi. Did you not learn from all the other football players that got caught? Donte Stallworth, Vincent Jackson to name a few. Come does it cost that much to hire someone to drive you around when you are making more than a million a year. This is not just in football it is in all sports. Is this really the athletes that are younger generation is looking up to. I guess the motto Charles Barkley is correct "I am not your role model just a basketball player". Spot on Charles but it is your duty when you are in the spot light to act properly in public.

Washington vs Nebraska

4 for 20 for 71 yards is not Heisman worthy numbers. This loss is not on Jake Locker shoulder, this loss is on the whole team. The huskers came to play and husky stadium was their playground. Nebraska was clearly more talented and faster team than the huskies. Taylor Martinez is a very, very fast quarterback once he gets a edge he is gone like flash and his counter partners were just putting a hurting on the defense up the middle. Three one hundred yards rushers were featured in this game. Everything about this game smelled like a loss from the start. Even though Nebraska had two cup cake games at home before traveling to Seattle, I had a feeling that this husky team was not prepared for this team that has a ton of talent that from top to bottom. The huskers secondary feature three players that the NFL covet and that is speed, range and ball skills. Taylor Martinez showed the nation he could handle the crowd noise with has short range passes and running skills. The huskies couldn't do anything do stop this team from running them over. Watching this game bought back memories of the Tyrone Willingham era of 0-12. This was maybe the hardest game to sit through and watch the dawgs get manhandled by a team that is enormously big on offense and defense. What do they feed these kids in Nebraska? What was even worse was going to downtown and seeing all the Nebraska fans walking around in their red gear and enjoying this win in my home state.

Seahawks vs Broncos

This was a absolutely horrible game from the start to end. Dam you Sean Locklear with that hold and Stacy Andrews with the false start. Dam you Matt Hasslebeck with the picks. Dam you Walter Thurmond with the punt return fumble at the nine yard line. Dam you Pete Carroll for going for it on 4th and 2 and leaving points on the field. Dam you Seahawks defense for not showing up to play. All in all there was not one bright spot during this game. Play like this again and they will get tramped over during the season. The Hawks looked good in the first game of the season against the SF Niners but it was totally a melt down in week 2. No I take that back there was two bright spot and that was Deon Butler and Golden Tate showing up and playing hard from start to end. Thank you Seattle for losing to Denver in a ass whooping fashion and me having to pay Anthony 5 bucks and a six pack of beer.
